More students to blog needed!

Hi Guys,

I am about to ask my year 8 students to become involved in the save the orang-utans forum. It would be great if the students from Birdwood could reply as soon as my students have blogged. Could you keep checking the blog for the next couple of weeks to check for their blogs so that you could reply.

I would also like the students at Birdwood School to get in touch with Adelaide Zoo and ask them if they would like to collaborate with Jersey zoo here in the UK.

Thanks for your time guys.

Hope all is well over there and not too hot. The weather is really cold here at the moment. We are all keeping a close eye on Andy Murray's performance in the Australian Gram Slam competition.

Regards.

Borneo Orangutan Survival - Australia

Hi Kerry,
We've all gone on Summer holidays now (I'm just here for a couple more days), so will be a fair while until someone replies, might be as long as late February by which time I hope we will have our Save the Orangutans student group up and running again.
I have been elected onto the Borneo Orangutan Survival - Australia national committee, at the recent Annual General Meeting in Melbourne. I'm really wanting to see what we can do with the Federal government to change the use of palm oil in Australia, and to also further develop the setting up of rain-forest protection schemes, so that it's not cleared any more.
Say hello to Richard from me.
All the best,
Lynton Vonow

Bye for now - at least

Keep up the great work everybody, I'm off on election leave again for the next few weeks, and if I win... well I may not be writing so often on the blog-site. But rest assured the orangutans will always be dear to me, and I will do whatever I can in government to save the species, and indeed put measures in place to allow them to breed up in numbers again,

Cheers and bye for now,

Lots going on - we've all been so been really busy!

Hi Gang,

Sorry its been a while. I've been really busy and will continue to be for the next week or so. Unfortunately this is not doing Orang-utan stuff, but exam marking instead. My students have been fab though. You can see from what Rebecca has written that they are really busy planning what to do next school year (which begins in September - we finish for our long summer break in two weeks time). They have some fantastic ideas about visiting our feeder primary schools and I'd love them to share their presentation about these with you all. Maybe Caitlin or Rebecca could post a link on this site to their presentation. What do you think girls?

Also, well done to Yolanda and mates for doing the assembly at BHS. It looked like you did a pretty awesome job.

One final thing. Have any of you got access to MSN Messenger. My students are keen to communicate with you this way. Do you have it at home?

Oh and I have been in touch with Jersey Zoo who I am hoping will want to get on board with our project. I would like a contact name from Adelaide Zoo, because they may want to contact Adelaide as a leading example in this field.

Take care guys,

Mr Seaton

New Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation website

Hi all,
You have to look at the revamped BOSF website, and especially the video and song on the home page, just click on the arrow and turn the volume up loud. http://www.orangutans.com.au/
Also have a look at some of the news items on http://www.orangutans.com.au/Orangutan-News/Save-Orangutans-from-extinction-when-you-next-shop.aspx
There is a petition letter there that you can highlight and print to send to Pepsi to ask them to stop using orangutans in their commercials in the Phillipines. Very important as people are inspired to get orangutans as pets from commercials such as these, and the illegal pet trade thus continues to flourish,
Cheers,
Mr. Vonow

Keep up the great blogging!

I just wanted to say how pleased I am with the work that everyone is doing. The students are doing some fantastic blogging, so well done! Also I love the image of the male Orang-utan that Mr Vonow has put on to the site. It shows what a majestic and awesome animal these apes truly are.

Our work so far!

Hi.

I am kerry, I am just wondering what you have been up to in Australia?

We have worked with our canteen staff. We have written letters to businesses about palm oil and have given a presentation about our work to our schoool governors and the head teacher.

We are currently working on creating an outside classroom and would like to know a little bit more about the work that you do at your school that is similar. We know from what Mr Seaton has said that you have an area where you can study native Australian species and that Mr Vonow looks after this. What is this area called? Can you give us any tips for our outdoor classroom. We would like to include a small water feature in our design. This will encourage water life to use the area. We could do with some ideas to help link this outdoor classroom with the Orang-utan work that we have been doing.

Can't wait to hear back from you.

C ya'

Kerry.

Hi everyone,

There are some great blogs going on the site now. I must insisit that both the Aussie and the UK students blog as regular as possible. I think the Aussie students are winning at the moment for their frequency of blogging. You guys really do need to start chatting to each other on the webblog. Allie I have just read your message and we would love to see your work experience photos. So why don't you give them to Mr Vonow to put on the webblog.

Cheers.
