how long have you been interested in the orangutans ?
I got interested in the orangutans since mr seaton had told us about them last year.
I hope you had a great summer break!!
This year I'm doing work experience at the Adelaide zoo I hope to work with the orangutans there. I will send some photos to you after November.

Hey everyone at Birdwood High School, thank you so much for your fantastic messages that you have posted on the Orang-utans web blog. I have been particularly impressed by your enthusiasm which is obviously guided by Lynton and Harry and the wonderful work you are doing in your "save the Orang-utans group". I will share your blogs with my students and ask them to reply when we return to school in September. I will also ask them about how they propose to raise awareness and funds to sponsor a baby Orang-utan which you seem to be doing already (what a great idea!). Well done to everyone involved. Keep cheering for those fantastic orange apes!!

Hello Friends Of The Orangutan!!
As you probably already know the Orangutan species is VERY endangered. I read the other day that due to the destruction of their habitat the species will be extinct within the next 10 years. That would be one of earths beautiful creatures gone forever at the harmful hands of humans. Please help us, the Birdwood Save The Orangutan Club, to raise funds and conserve this creature!

I am a member of the save the orangutan group at Birdwood High School.
I am really keen on saving them.
I am a very outspoken person and when I found out that my favourite animal was in trouble I was very outraged that some of the most popular foods such as KFC and Smiths chips use Palm Oil and I hope that they will change their minds and will stop killing these gorgeous animals.

I am a member of the Birdwood High Save The Orangutans Group! It's a great group and I enjoy working with them. It would be great if our school can sposor a baby orangutan because then we could help a disadvantaged chimp who has no mother or father. By the way, just before I forget, I just wanted to say that I've heard that everyone around the world has raised $1,000,000 dollars for the orangutans, which means they will be saved from danger for a full year! Hi my name is Caitlin and I am a student at Tanfield School in Durham in the UK. I am interested in the plight of the Orang-utans and how we as humans can improve their situation and their conservation.

I will go away and do a bit more research into the destruction of the Orang-utans and look into the problems that the palm oil plantations are creating.

We're on holidays!

Hi,
We in Australia go on holidays for two weeks from this Friday until Monday the 23rd of July, so you probably wont get any replies from us until after then.
In the meantime please let us know what you are thinking about the orangutans - those amazing orange animals. Maybe do an internet search and see if you can find some fact about them or their environment that you can share with us.
There's always more we can learn - and after all "knowledge is power" in this case to do something for them.

The Birdwood High school assembly

Hi Students and Richard,
Three of our students, Allie, Yolanda and Chelsea stood up in front of the whole school last week, and did short presentations about the problem that palm oil plantations are causing orangutans, the Borneo Orangutan Survival rescue centre and our Orang-u-Friends membership of BOSF Australia. We also showed a selection of photos that we found on Google Images, lots of different faces showing different emotions.
It was interesting that World Vision's 40 Hour Famine was also being promoted at the same assembly, just before us, with a very emotive video shown about the suffering being experienced by children in Laos.
So it was with a small degree of uncertainty that we launched into our presentation about orangutans. I explained that we very much endorse the work of World Vision, but that the orangutans are very important also. This world is their home too.

Hi Lynton and all of Birdwood High,What a wonderful job you are all doing by raising awareness about the plight of the Orang-utans! I had to speak to my school governers on Thursday after school and they were delighted at the work we were doing on this project. They were very happy that our students are about to start communicating with one another. This is a real opportunity for a link between the two schools. I have now launched the web blog to my students, I think we will only have to wait another week or so before our students are communicating in full to one another. Good luck to you and your students in giving your talk I hope it is well received. I look forward to hearing all about it!

We are all being very brave as it can be scary talking to a large group, but we believe in what we are doing, and that helps a lot. Hope you're thinking of us and wish us good luck! Hi Lynton, thanks for your most recent posting. I would appreciate any help with the blog site as 'web blogging' is still very new to me. It is important that the students can access this site without any problems and if there is an easirer way for them to do that then by all means let me know. Thanks again for your support. I will be advertising this site to our students as soon as we return to school as we are currently on a one week holiday. Keep suggesting ways of helping our amazing orange friends.
